    An unexpected guest

You know how you should always be courteous to guests, because they might turn out to be gods in disguise, testing your hospitality? The leaves of this plant (weed?) intrigued me, and i wasn’t planning on putting anything else there so i let it grow. Now it’s about 2.5 feet tall, with...

The tomatoes and cukes remain tiny, but i have hope for them. It is only June. For a couple more days. I mounded up more earth and straw over the potatoes. The last strawberries (they seem like) are liberally seasoned with the best sauce: patience and time. The cherries will probably be ripe...

    What slugs like best

    creeping pennyroyal and Entry garden
So i hear about recipes that call for snails, with rosemary as a substitution, because snails-for-eating are fed on rosemary and taste like it. Well, there must be some deliciously pungent slugs creeping about, because they’ve destroyed the pennyroyal. Apparently, that is what they like bes...

    ooh, i found one!

    Lamb's quarters Potting Up
Pulling out the grasses and weeds to make room for a friend’s experimental corn, i found one little lamb’s quarters sprout. I put it in a pot to protect it; when it gets big and strong enough (and i have the time to clear more grass out front) into the weed specimen garden it will go!
