How I pay for my Gardening Addiction
Clear 9°C / 48°FI spend my free time woodcarving, especially wintertime when there’s no gardening in the Northeast. I have been carving for over 40 years and have sold pieces all over the world. Photo 1: a 60" long, 10" deep carving of a New England Fishing Village. the insides of the building ...

Prepping my beds - a major ordeal
Glass Greenhouse garden and Backyard Vegetable gardenClear 9°C / 48°FMy garden looks like a bomb went off. I finished prepping six of the beds with six to go. I still have to prep the two 40 footers in the tomato hoop house, and install new 6-mil UV film on the 10×40 hoop house frame. My greenhouse is bulging at the seams with plants awaiting their new hom...

Got a 135% germination rate or I have fat fingers.
Pepper: California Wonder Potting Up and Glass Greenhouse gardenRepotted 402 California Wonder peppers into 18-oz cups. I planted 1104 of them at 2 per cell. Obviously the midnight sower snuck in and sowed an extra seed in a whole lot of the cells. Either that or I have fat fingers. I picked up 1250 bright red 18-oz cups at Aldies. Clear cups are a pain ...Clear -2°C / 28°F -

Clear 8°C / 46°FMy neighbor and gardening buddy went in for open heart surgery, and he is going to be laid-up for a couple weeks. I decided to make chicken soup for a easy quick lunch. Unfortunately his wife is legally blind, so I’m thinking that the menu around there is a little limited. I make some pre...

Homemade Freerange Chicken Soup a big hit
Bartering gardenMostly Cloudy 9°C / 48°FI stopped in to check on my 92 year-old Mother last night and she was eating a jar of my homemade chicken soup. She was riding me the last couple of days about being a bit anal, spending two days making soup. Well she had to eat her words. What a difference, using organic free range chickens m...

Freezing last 2 bushel of Peppers - 95 pounds for season
Backyard Vegetable garden , Pepper: Gourmet Green to Orange , Pepper: California Wonder , and Pepper: Carme...Partly Cloudy 15°C / 59°FI got my last 2 bushel of peppers cut up late last night and frozen on cookie sheets. It yielded a little less than 35 pounds of sliced peppers. I had to pull out all my vacuum sealed peppers this season for a photo. The amount of work involved didn’t really sink in until I saw this year...
