    Ripe at last

Just picked and ate my first Rugosa melon. Late and a bit bland because of the season but at least these melons survived the awful weather conditions. The flesh is sweet and has a watermelon-like texture. Dull yellow rind with very light green flesh.

My two D’Alger melons that managed to live through the wet summer have a couple of fruit each and one is about to start ripening.

    Not as bad as expected

With the cool weather I expected my tigger melons to be awful but they were sweeter than I expected, not great, but ok.

    About to start ripening

These are the only melons that did any well this year. Even though the plants are still tiny they have many melons just about to ripen. I really hope they become sweet even though the weather has been bad.

First harvest of spaghetti squash :)

    Default garden
I have never grown these before as I hate eating squash and zucchini but I have been pleasantly surprised by them and will be planting again next year. The vines are productive and vigorous and are still setting fruit even as the summer turns into autumn. The fruits were a surprise. I never guess...

    Zucchinis coming out our ears

    Default garden
Even after the horrible weather this summer, this zucchini is bearing so well we have to give most of the fruit to neighbours – and that is only from two plants. I have just stopped harvesting the fruit to let some ripen for the seeds. Thank God for the internet, you can find thousands of z...

My Tigger melons are setting well - at long last

    Default garden
After a disastrous start – with an unusually wet and cold summer – I am getting quite a few tigger melons setting on the few vines I have left. I only hope they have enough time to ripen before the first frosts.
