I live in a townhouse complex where I have a small front flower bed and a large back deck with a small fenced in yard. The deck and fence were only built last summer so this will be my first “full blown” garden season.
Over the past 4 summers I’ve gone from a handful of containers to A LOT of containers. The shady front flower bed is mostly bulbs and perennials as I like to keep it low-maintenance however I have added to it every year. The backyard is my pride and joy. It is relatively private and sunny and I far prefer to hang out there. It is 100% containers as there is very little grass. I cover an ugly asphalt pad with an outdoor rug.
My gardening experience is pretty much trial and error. I have learned a lot over the last 4 years in terms of what I like and what I don’t and what works and what doesn’t. I do use the internet and books as references once I have a firm idea of what I want to create but every year when I go to the nursery I always buy something new to try out in addition to the tried and true. I discovered dahlias and fuschias in this manner.
