Sawflies attacking the gooseberries
Gooseberry Treating and Gooseberry TreatingAll three gooseberries are being skeletonized by sawfly worms. Little green worms gnawing away at the leaves. By the time I spotted them, they had eaten all of the leaves off of two thirds of one cane on the gooseberry in the square bed. Many of the seedlings from downstairs were put out in the cold frame today and also put into larger pots. It’s rainy and kind of yuck today, but being outside wasn’t too bad. Got lots done.11°C / 52°F -

A thai pepper seedling emerged yesterday and opened it’s leaves today. I was worried it would be another club-headed seedling. Hopefully one or two of the others will sprout eventually also. Apparently it can take up to 20 days for a pepper seed to germinate.10°C / 50°F -

Broccoli and 1 cucumber planted out

Moved the broccoli to the cold frame today
Umpqua Broccoli Hardening OffI only ended up with two viable seedlings out of 9 seeds planted, so maybe I’ll direct sow a few more around these ones when I plant them out in about a week. The honeysuckle is covered in aphids again. I keep spraying them off with the high pressure setting of the hose, but every week there are even more. I did end up trying keeping them in the fridge for a week for a “cold cycle” and then one single seedling popped up a couple days later. I’m still hopeful that a few more might appear.9°C / 49°F
