    Sprouted... so soon!

Fenugreek Sprouting and ARCHIVED - Greenhouse garden
Wow, this didn’t take any time at all to sprout. I think all of the seeds sprouted too. Must be a weed then, haha! I’m looking forward to harvesting my own Fenugreek. How exciting!

    Sawflies attacking the gooseberries

    Gooseberry Treating and Gooseberry Treating
All three gooseberries are being skeletonized by sawfly worms. Little green worms gnawing away at the leaves. By the time I spotted them, they had eaten all of the leaves off of two thirds of one cane on the gooseberry in the square bed. The one under the dogwood and the one by the fence are also...

Many of the seedlings from downstairs were put out in the cold frame today and also put into larger pots. It’s rainy and kind of yuck today, but being outside wasn’t too bad. Got lots done.

    1 pepper finally sprouted

    Thai Hot Peppers Sprouting
A thai pepper seedling emerged yesterday and opened it’s leaves today. I was worried it would be another club-headed seedling. Hopefully one or two of the others will sprout eventually also. Apparently it can take up to 20 days for a pepper seed to germinate.

Broccoli and 1 cucumber planted out

Umpqua Broccoli Planting Out and Cucumber, Bush Spacemaster Planting Out
The two broccoli seedlings and the bush spacemaster cucumber are planted in the cloche now, next to the lettuces and onions. We had a wind/rain storm all day yesterday that seems to be continuing today. The compost is looking pretty good. I need to get the pitchfork back from Chris and stir it. T...

Moved the broccoli to the cold frame today

    Umpqua Broccoli Hardening Off
I only ended up with two viable seedlings out of 9 seeds planted, so maybe I’ll direct sow a few more around these ones when I plant them out in about a week. The weather is weird lately. Not too cold or hot, but we’re getting high winds and had some lightning yesterday.

    Aphids. YUCK.

    Coral Honeysuckle
The honeysuckle is covered in aphids again. I keep spraying them off with the high pressure setting of the hose, but every week there are even more. The surrounding laurel spurge was also covered in them and their nasty honeydew secretion, so I finally stopped procrastinating and killed all of th...

    ONE sprouted

Bells of Ireland Sprouting and ARCHIVED - Backyard Ornamentals garden
I did end up trying keeping them in the fridge for a week for a “cold cycle” and then one single seedling popped up a couple days later. I’m still hopeful that a few more might appear.
