First! Blueberry Fruiting and Front shade box garden
Ate my first tiny handful of blueberries today. Nom nom nom. Sweet & tasty. I think this bush will only produce a couple of handfuls altogether this year, but that’s totally ok. :)

2 down, 1 to go? :( Mountain Hemlock Dying and South "heel-in" zone garden
Yesterday C yanked out the mostly dead hemlock tree, which I was feeling too soft-hearted to do. So now the only one left is the entirely sideways-crooked tree, and I’m nervously noting a few yellowing needles towards the bottom. It makes me really sad, they were pretty trees, and a gift, a...

    Midsummer checkup
Yesterday we pulled a bunch of morning glory out of the north-back corner, and afterwards I took a look at the back & south gardens. The lilies seem to be basically done, flowers all gone. The volunteer nasturtiums have just started to bloom. The biggest of the volunteers sunflowers is about ...

Hacking back the rosemary South garden
This morning I cut a bunch of the dead limbs off of the rosemary, partially to give the echinacea a little more room, partially to give the new live bits room to grow. As it turns out, all the living bits are coming off of a fresh root towards the front of the plant.

    Discoveries
Larissa came over today and we wandered about the garden. She identified a few of the plants that came from her mom’s garden last summer (motherwort & fuschia), plus the crazy plant in one of the front berms: lemon balm, apparently. Natural mosquito repellent? Awesome! Also, I figured o...

    July 8, 2008 South garden
Watered in the morning, then came back & took another look in the early afternoon with Larissa. Identified the fuschia & motherwort! Later in the evening, pruned the thyme.
