Big harvest Yukon Gold Potato Harvesting and Vegetable garden
Pulled the rest of the big tubers out, and now have about 4 pounds of small to medium-sized potatoes. Left the seed potatoes in the ground as usual for next year, but I might move to a container in the spring.

Transplanted some sprouts Lacinato Kale Transplanted and Vegetable garden
I had sprinkled a few seeds in the big bed when I planted my fall salad crop and they’ve been coming up slowly. Transplanted a few of them into the small bed with with carrots and put the row cover cloth up on the frame, so I’m hoping they’ll take off a bit more with some warmth...

Mildew and vines dying Sugar Pumpkin Dying and Vegetable garden
The leaves are looking very sad, and most of the vines have stopped growing. I’ve got a few plump fruits that are still very green, hoping that the warm spell we’re supposed to get next week will help ripen them. Have harvested one nice little pumpkin that did ripen.

Coming back up 1 Garlic 'Spanish Roja' Sprouting and Vegetable garden
Nice thing about bulbing plants, if they don’t do so hot one year, they’ll probably come up again. So when I was replanting some salad I pulled out the sad little corms from the spring, and now they’re sprouting up nicely. Hoping they’ll overwinter and I’ll actually ...

    Removed dead rhodie Frontyard garden
The poor thing never did well, and this summer’s heat did it in. When I dug it out, the roots were all bound up, I don’t think there was any soil at all in the root ball. Either some really bad landscapers did the planting, or the last owner had no idea. I suspect the former. Most of ...

Spring bulbs 1 Bees & Bugs garden
Planted some of the bulbs I dug up from excavations in the front border. I’m not really sure what they are, so I’m not going to “propagate” until I see what comes up in the spring. Should be Narcissus “jetfire” and muscari. I think.

Planted Heuchera Frosted Violet Planting Out and Frontyard garden
Finally decided to plant this Heuchera next to my existing one. But that meant digging out a bunch of columbines and daylilies from that corner of the border. No big loss. Now maybe my campanula will actually thrive now that it doesn’t have so much competition. Also ended up digging up a bu...

Last batch for fall Sassy Salad Mix Sown and Vegetable garden
Hopefully the mini-heatwave we’ll be getting this week will be just the thing to get them going for a good fall crop. I’ve never planted for a fall crop before, so I’m kind of guessing. Used the last of my packet from this mix. Probably won’t get this mix again, the mustar...

Harvesting Yukon Gold Potato Harvesting and Vegetable garden
Pulled a few today – they’re looking less like the Yukons of years past and more like petite Russets, maybe cross-pollenated with someone else’s crop?
