    Soil Test

    Did a very depressing test of the soil in the back garden, basically everything is low or very low Nitrate didn’t even get on the chart, phosphorus was low, and potassium again was very low. The one bit of good news was that the ph was Neutral. Given the clay texture it looks like we have j...

    New compost trial

    Back garden
    Tried out a new compost when we were planting out the Hebe and the Sweet Box, 50-50 mix of worm casts and wool compost from Wiggly Wigglers – nice rich mix looks good, hope the plants like it.

    Prunned Buddleia

    Buddleia
    Masacred the buddleia – cut it back to around 2ft from the ground – from about 12 feet high, corner look very bare – hope it grows back quick. At least we got a lot of woody stuff for the compost bin and the bits to large for the shreader have made a great bug house at the back ...

    Prunned smoke bush

    Smoke bush 'Royal Purple' Budding
    Removed about a third of the length of branches, it was getting fairly straggly. Just started budding – hoping that this will force the buds on the older branches.

    too big

    Deodar Cedar 'Gold Cone' and Back garden
    oh dear – classic mistake, bought this as a dwarf, lost tag, so wasn’t to sure what it would grow into. Searched it out and it grows to 30 ft, oh well, guess it will need to come out :-(

    Pruned Hazel

    Removed three large branches from base – 10 feet or so, towering over the remainder of the tree and ruining shape

    Dug over the vegtable bed and re planted some garlic

    Back garden
    Got all the weeds out of the veg plot and added compost and then re planted some garlic that was still unharvested from last year. Winnie (8 week old guide dog puppy) had to be restrained from digging them back up
