First harvest 1 Neutral D1 Salad mix Harvesting, Square Foot Vegetable garden , and D4 Parsley Harvesting
Not much of a harvest, only about 1/2 bowl of salad greens, but still it was something.

Repotted the amaryllis 1 Very Happy Amaryllis Repotted and Indoor garden
OK, actually I just potted it. After several years of struggling with the cheap plastic pot that came with it (why did I even bother), I gave up and unpotted it. Well, bulbs being bulbs, that sure didn’t stop the amaryllis, so when it started putting up leaves the other day, I decided it wa...

Starting to move potted plants outside Unhappy Spider plant Moved and Indoor garden
The spider plant is always first. It seems much hardier and resistant to abuse, mistreatment, etc. Also, it’s just a spider plant. It has no sentimental value, and if necessary, could be replaced at little to no cost. So it’s my guinea pig.

Fighting back the sugar maples Neutral Yard weeds garden
The previous owners of our house seem to have been generally well-intentioned regarding maintenance and repairs, but they did a cut-corner poor DIY job on a variety of things. One of the results of this is a lot of medium-sized sugar maples growing in unfortunate places. Last summer I cut down fi...

Brought potted plants inside Neutral Indoor garden
In anticipation of low temperatures in the mid-30s tonight, I brought all my potted plants inside for the winter. My mother suggested that potted plants should be brought in when lows dip into the 40s, but that happened in mid-July this year!

Pulled them up 1 mystery plant (pumpkin?) and Frontyard (driveway-side) garden
In addition to getting very mildewy, they were pretty well infested with borers. I didn’t plant these, they were volunteers, and I didn’t want to spend much time on them. Also, there was only ever one flower open at a time, which made pollination pretty unlikely. So yesterday morning,...

Summer storms 3 Neutral Rosemary and Indoor garden
Several heavy storms blew through the area yesterday afternoon and early evening. In a fairly bizzare freak accident, my rosemary, which was in a plastic pot on the top (4th) step coming up to my porch, flipped over completely, came out of the pot while in the air, and landed upright, taking most...

Maybe I'll get some zucchini after all... Zucchini Flowering and Square Foot Vegetable garden
We went out of town for the weekend to visit my mother-in-law (pictures of her amazing garden coming soon), and came back to find the zucchini flowering. I’m still a little dubious about getting much from them – I put them in pretty late, and they’re a lot smaller than they real...

Great big buds! Black Eyed Susan Budding and Butterfly garden
The large black eyed susan is getting ready to just burst with flowers. If it gets there soon enough, I might have almost every plant in the garden blooming at once!
