I’ve been weeding a garden since I was a kid. These days I usually put in a few summertime veggies like tomatoes, peppers and wax beans…success is rather random. I admire those who have the ability to grow and preserve food for their table. Flowers are my main focus since I’m better at keeping them happy, they live longer, I don’t have to can or freeze them and, like veggies, they are fun to share.
We live on an acre & a half which has a definite downward slope in the front yard. Much of this front is in native pecan trees. The south side of our yard joins the Corps of Engineers land that surrounds Kaw Lake. We basically live on the edge of a wilderness area and have its beauty and its critters…variety of birds, deer, raccoon, armadillos etc. Last year we finally fenced in our small vegetable garden which allowed us to eat a bit more of what we grew.
I use lots of mulch everywhere to keep down the weeds and keep in the moisture. I don’t think it qualifies as lasagna gardening but it works for me.
