It has been a long time since I have been able to garden. I now have a 50 year old house with a huge yard – about 3/4ths of an acre of lawn that looks like it has never had much of a garden in it. The soil is dense, red sticky clay that would probably be better for making pots than planting. The yard is surrounded by mature maples and oaks and gets a lot of shade. The lawn grows a wide variety of mushrooms, ivy and moss. I grew up in Colorado and have never worked with this kind of soil before – I am finding it a challenge!
