Hello… and welcome to our cry for help :) We have a garden that we are working on VERY SLOWLY. Due to busy lives, sometimes it looks better than others. Now, being in Perth,Western Australia, our garden lacks natural water and the “soil” looks like grey sand. There is not much going here in the way of the elements being on your side. We have started planting more natives. Also, we look around at neglected gardens to ascertain what others are growing without trying.
Our biggest challenge is soil. We are just starting out to improve it. We’ll see what works best.
Water is also hard. We have to water a lot. Even in winter. Our sand is horrid when it comes to water retention. You can water the same spot for 10 minutes straight and then move the sand around with your finger and it is dry about 8mm down.
So… even though there is whinging there is upsides. Plenty of people do have nice gardens within 10km radius of us. So it must be possible. We’ll just have to find out how :)
