I’ve been gardening properly for 10 years which was when I got my first proper garden. I’m married to Uncle Wilf and I’ve dragged him along the garden path with me!
We’ve had our current garden for five years and it’s slowly taking shape. (It’ll be even better when we get a new fence – but don’t hold your breath on that one!) Because of the aforementioned fence we’ve concentrated on the veg garden rather than the flower borders. The soil is very poor, it’s quite stoney, doesn’t hold moisture well and has a tendency to set with concrete hardness while you’ve got your back turned! The exception to this is the shady border which is damp and claggy.
We garden as organically as possible. The number of ladybirds, hoverflies, butterflies and bumblebees we get in the garden shows this must be paying off. We’ve also got a couple of toads and a slow worm about the place – I’m hoping they help me win the slug war ;-)
