Tomatoes transplanted! Golden Sundrop Cherry Tomato Planting Out, Red Currant Cherry Tomato Planting Out, and Pink Whippersnapper ...
Well, my little babies went out last night. It was so tough to put them out! The “kit” itself featured about 8 or so plants in what quickly became a very small planter so we had to snip and gently tease apart the root systems of the plants to replant them – no idea how well they...

Curly cress and arugula sprouting! Curly Cress (Peppergrass) Sprouting and Arugula Sprouting
The old dog crate worked like MAGIC – the pots haven’t been dug up once, they’re still easy to water, and voila – seedlings! Guess it will be a few more days for the endive, also in the same container.

Flowers sprouting Bachelor Buttons Sprouting and Candytuft Sprouting
I care very little about these guys – they’re just a filler for the front yard, since I don’t feel comfortable planting too many edibles out front due to all the dogs peeing. But they’re up, which means hopefully they’ll fill in nicely.

Bunching onions sprouting! Bunching Onions (white) Sprouting and Bunching Onions - Red Sprouting
Gosh these little guys seemed to take forever to come up. But they’re finally poking through, both the red and white. I can’t wait to see them take off – and eat ’em! Nom.*

Zucchini not liking being hardened off 1 Eight Ball Zucchini Dying and Variegated Eight Ball Zucchini Dying
I was hardening off the zuccs all last week and after four or five days of it they started losing leaves, curling up, drying up, going light green and generally looking like unhappy plants. Sooooo, I’ve moved them back inside, am feeding them fertilizer and keeping them under grow lights fo...

My first hardening off Golden Sundrop Cherry Tomato Hardening Off, Red Currant Cherry Tomato Hardening Off, Pink Whippersnapper Ch...
Been hardening off the tomato and zucchini plants this week for, hopefully, a planting this weekend. The tomatoes are adapting nicely but the zucchinis are really suffering – turning lighter green, and a few of the leaves closer to the bottom of the stem are wilting and/or dying. But they&#...

Spinach showing true leaves 1 Spinach (McKenzie) and Spinach (West Coast)
Starting to show some true leaves. Don’t think I planted deeply enough as some of them look a little tipsy like they’re too close to the surface. Good to know for fall.

Rattza frattzin pests - replanted lettuces Marche Sown, Curly Cress (Peppergrass) Sown, and Arugula Sown
Well, my first plantings of Curly Cress, Marche and Arugula were a total bust. Even after we moved the planters upstairs to our 3rd floor balcony garden, they were digging in it several times daily (though never so I could catch them at it – grrr – but I’m assuming it’s ra...

Cress up 1 1 Curly Cress (Peppergrass) Sprouting
Despite repeated visits from neighbourhood pests and cats, the cress is up and showing a couple sets of leaves per plant already. Moved them up to the upstairs balcony garden hoping to reduce the digging, sitting, etc.

Lettuce seeds = snacks? 3 Marche , Arugula , and Curly Cress (Peppergrass)
How can I tell the difference between dirt settling and critter holes? All three lettuce containers were sown the other day but this morning there were three evenly spaced “holes” in the dirt in each container. Now, there are ALSO three drainage holes in each of the containers, also e...
