Sunny 17°C / 63°FSchlepping so many tomatoes in and out for the hardening off period has been getting boring so I spent a few minutes discussing with them this morning whether any of them were ready to plant out. The weather has been cold and rainy, with daytime temps in the low 50’s and nighttime in the lo...

Cloudy 14°C / 57°FLike a hydra, 7 new heads sprout for each one cut,and so the purple sprouting broccoli harvest continues. Cool, sunny, pretty day today. Some gardening and a walk in the arboreteum to make the day perfect. To quote Emerson “The earth laughs in flowers”, with rhodies and azaleas steal...

Sunny 24°C / 75°FJoyful to return home after a week and check out the garden blooms on a warm sunny day. Why did I live without species tulips for all these years? The ones I ordered from Old House Gardens last fall are exquisite. Pollinators are active—mainly honeybees and bumblebees. Saw the white cabba...

Sunny 24°C / 75°FReturned from a trip to southern Utah, to find all the seedlings thriving. Most of the toms have started budding. I potted up the toms and tomatillos, mostly into 1 gallon containers, and let them spend a couple of hours outside to start hardening off. Thinking about all the moving inside and out...

Overcast 17°C / 63°FYou know you are a garden nerd when you find yourself thinking during the first half of every month about which flower will get a bloom day badge. April should have many candidates, however the early spring ones are past prime and less photogenic and most of the mid spring ones are still in bud. ...

Sunny 21°C / 70°FThat was the temperature on Easter Sunday. We have had 3 days of nice spring weather and over a week since it last rained—a refreshing change from our usual drear. In March we had 26 days of precipitation, producing a record 7.20 inches of rain, and 1 inch of snow, and only 14 days when th...

Cloudy 13°C / 55°F
I love the way folia allows me to organize my photos so as to be able to compare the season progression across the years. I just took a photo from approximately the same vantage point as I did 2 years ago.
Either spring is late this year, or it was early in 2010.
