    It's been awhile...

    Herb SFG garden
Last summer was extremely hot — so hot that I didn’t bother attempting to garden… or keep up with anything outside. I’m paying for it now. Since I didn’t mulch the beds they’re full of weeds. Anything that was in a pot (aside from my orchids) died of dehydrat...

    Keeping my germs to myself

I stayed home sick from university last night and today, but felt good enough to work outside a bit. I blame the TheraFlu. Some of the weeding mess was cleaned up from the driveway (finally), I started a few more clones and generally rearranged stuff. Clones I’ve made so far: Yellow Pear,...

    Dry Farming Tomatoes and Me

Yellow Pear , Quick Pick Harvesting, and Cherokee Purple Harvesting
Like I mentioned before, I dry farmed my tomatoes this season. As predicted not all of my tomatoes were exactly pretty. The Cherokee Purples split like crazy while the other varieties didn’t split at all. Husband and I decided to not dry farm the CPs next year. (He was never crazy about...

    Almost ripe!

Fourth of July , Quick Pick , Cherokee Purple , and Veggie SFG garden
I go out to the garden every morning before I leave for work. Lately it’s been to check for ripe veggies to harvest and bring inside. Mostly it’s been cucumbers that I’ve brought in, which get gobbled up pretty quick. The cucumbers don’t last long with DH around. My ni...

Error is between container and rain barrel

    Fairy garden
Let the fairy garden dry out — I fail. After being doused with water, the Wonderland mix has bounced back but not the mint. I really liked that mint, too. Here’s hoping that it’ll grow back.

    Cukes in container -- success!

Backyard GrowBox garden , Sunflower , and Cucumber
Whatever variety of container cucumber I choose, it was a good choice. It’s fruiting just right — not too much, not too little — and DH and SIL said they were sweet. The cukes don’t last long once I bring them inside from the garden. Too bad I can’t remember the v...

    Mmm tomatoes!

Hillbilly , Cherokee Purple , Fourth of July , Quick Pick , and Yellow Pear
Counted at least 12 tomatoes on just one plant today, yay! Some are quite large and it’s quite tempting to pick one and stick it in a bag with an apple. Hurry up and ripen already!! I want my tomato sammich! I’m trying dry farming on the tomatoes, which is probably silly since Cher...

    Durango Marigolds

Anyone know if the Durango cultivar of marigold is a hybrid or not? I’m saving seed from mine. While I don’t mind if they look different from their parents next season, I am curious.

Cherokee Purple and Veggie SFG garden
Found 3 more tomatoes today — this makes a total of six! Hoping they’ll become ripe soon.
