I’m new to this whole gardening thing. Although I am renting a ‘cottage’ with my SO, we’re going to be here for a few years at least. I really want to leave mark on the garden, partly because I am finally going to be in one place long enough to do that, and partly because it’s so BARE. There are very few plants and they’re scattered all over! And I like a challenge :D
The farm cottage we live in is on the top of a small hill, surrounded by old pineapple fields that are slowly being turned into grazing for the prozed Ngui cattle that the landowner breeds. The soil is poor, but I have a compost heap. And the water is too brackish (salty) to be used in the garden without causing long term damage to the soil. We do have a big rain water tank thankfully! There’s also a constant wind from the south-west which varies between a gentle breeze and gale-force. And no wind break.
Did I mention I like a challenge?
So far I have been focusing on veggies and herbs and learning about the weather and whatnot befoer moving on to more permenant flowers and trees :)
