When I was very young I was fascinated with plants and flowers. In fact, “flower” was my first word. My mother has always loved growing plants, flowers and vegetables and she is usually the first person I turn to for gardening advice.

As I grew older, my interest in plants really waned. I’m not sure why. One of my friends jokes about the year she first met me. My classroom was filled with fake plants and I said those were the only things I didn’t kill.

Then, two years ago I decided that I was tired of being embarrassed by the weed infested beds I had in front of my house. I asked my mom for help in clearing it out and planting flowers. Amazingly enough, everything lived. From that moment the interest grew and has become an obsession.

I still feel amazed when seeds germinate and my plants stay alive. I think every plant is a miracle.
