    Citrus Trees -- Fertilized

Bearss Seedless Lime Fertilising, Meyer Lemon Fertilising, Cara Cara Orange Fertilising, Late Lane Navel Or...
Got out there and fertilized all my citrus trees. With the exception of the Satsuma, which took a hard hit last winter from our heavy rains, everything is looking pretty good.

    Jen's Getting "vavoom"

Rose 'Vavoom' and HMB - South Garden garden
I’m lucky to have a gardening buddy who’s as into orange stuff as I am and who lives in a better spot for roses. Vavoom had been removed—gopher cage and all—and put in my car this afternoon for transport to Jen, where it’ll be lovely I’m sure. Bye bye vavoom.

Swapped the Marjorie channons with the boxwood

HMB - North garden and Pittosporum 'Marjorie Channon' Moved
Well, since it seems the deer like the Marjorie Channon Pittosporums (surprise!) I thought I would swap them with my yellow/green boxwoods. I recall that when I purchased the boxwoods from HMB Nursery, they were stashed alongside a shed that didn’t really get all that much sun (just bright...

    Moved the Ugni

Chilean Guava Transplanted and HMB - North garden
I moved the Ugni down a level to what I call “Level 2” in our North Garden terrace area, just to the right of the little path connecting the two steps. It already looks much better there where it’s bright foliage lights up that spot. Before, it was in front of the Himalayan Ho...

    Moved the Heuchera

Heuchera 'Midnight Rose' Transplanted and HMB - All along Lane garden
Since it seemed that the lane garden was providing just a little too much shade for the Midnight rose heucheras to show off their stuff, I moved them to the north garden just back of the first terrace wall behind the patio. I think it’ll be really pretty there with the ville de lyon clemat...

Jasmine about to bust out in bloom

Pink Jasmine and HMB - All along Lane garden
We’ve had tremendously lovely weather recently, and I anticipate the bloom of my pink jasmine vines, which are just simply loaded and ready to “bust out.” Sadly, this week we are getting a major weather front and have had 2 days of extremely strong winds, expected to continue f...

    Helleborus Transplanted to Brighter area

    Helleborus Ivory Prince Transplanted
given that these guys were not performing on the lane garden, I decided that I would replace them with some small shrubby azaleas which I was sure would do better and provide the all around dark green contrast I was looking for. I am writing this post a week later, and after having pruned off th...

New Cherry Plum Trees for me

I ripped out Prunus Cerasifera “Krauter Vesuvius” because I feel the branches are very leggy and more like water shoots than branches. I had them in the ground since spring 2009 and they just shot out very leggy and not very “bloom ific.” So, I decided to follow the lady...

    Pruned Abutilon

Abutilon - pink Pruning and HMB - All along Lane garden
Because the Eureka lemon had been struggling for so long to get some sun, I decided to take a hack-saw to the abutilon and prune it down to about 1-2’, from a previous height of 5". I want to also see if I can get this entry to appear as a milestone for this plant.

    Pittosporum Eaten By Deer

    Pittosporum 'Marjorie Channon'
It turns out that the neighborhood deer like to chew on the pittosporum, so they got a sporadic pruning about every month after I planted them out. In addition the one in the most shade grew the most slowly, so I was thinking about swapping them with my variegated boxwood.
