I think the critters ate the elderberry 1 Black Lace elderberry Dormant and Front door garden
Since it’s a bit of a warm day (near-record highs are predicted) I was out inspecting some of my garden. I knew that the Black Lace Elderberry was looking a little sad, but until I looked at the picture from last sunmmer, I hadn’t noticed that not only is the foliage gone, but most of...

The owls paid me a visit 5 3
I have a family of Eastern Screech Owls living in my area. I think they are nested in a maple tree behind the garage, but I’m not sure of that. I saw one last summer, then Friday morning, I saw two gray juveniles and a red adult working on eating a mourning dove (or maybe a blue jay— ...

It's gone 2 astilbe and Back door garden
Came back from vacation to find the poor thing gone. Not just dead, but totally absent from it’s place in the garden. I guess a squirrel took it. Who knows. But on the bright side. I get to go buy a replacement for that corner. :)

Can you flood a columbine? 1 Columbine Dying and Back door garden

My rose-- she blooms! 1 1 Pink Peace rose and Front door garden
I was so afraid that this new rose would bloom once I went on vacation, and I’d miss it. But it didn’t, and I didn’t. There are three more good-sized buds on the plant, but I’ll probably miss their openings. The other roses in the patch aren’t so happy. They were pre...

She's gone 1 Back door garden
My poor astilbe was again unearthed. I replanted her again, but she just couldn’t overcome it again. I’m so sad for her. If I were to find the critter who did this to her, I’d give him a stern talking to. And I might even slap him around a little but. Stupid squirrels.

The holes in my cabbage are a-growing. Stupid bugs. I hope that the heads will outgrow the critters’ appetites.
