Organic gardener
The Madd Hatters are a sister/brother team living in West Central Iowa in the USA. Our name arose from our Geocaching adventures and was born of the fact we both favor wearing just about any kind of hat for stylistic, protective and personal preference reasons.
Oh yeah, gardens. My sisters property measures in at 0.51 acres, giving us way too much lawn, so we choose to open as much of it to gardens as our taupe thumbs will allow. In 2007 we registered our yard with the National Wildlife Federation as a Certified Wildlife Area, providing living space, food and water for the critters of our semi-urban area.
Yesterday, June 3, 2008, saw the introduction of our first in-ground pond on the South side of the house, under the living room windows. Our plan is to extend it with a marsh (no mean feat on a hill top), a second pond and a rain garden to the East.
