To mow or not to mow?

Chilli - Scotch Bonnet red Repotted
I’ve finally managed to get out in the garden after all the rain we’ve been having. I’ve put my tomato plants outside in the cold frame to start hardening off and have re-potted my chilli plants (see pictiure below). My spuds are looking good (think I’ve managed to rescu...

    So sick of this weather.

    Runner Bean - White Emergo
Ok so rain is giid for the garden but this is all too much! I haven’t been able to get out into the garden for several weeks now and my lawn is like a swamp. I’ve had to move my spud bags and garlic to the summerhouse veranda to keep the worst of the weather off them. No wonder I h...

    Much cooler this week.

After a very mild couple of weeks, it’s turned cooler and I’ve made sure my early spuds (Red Duke of York) are earthed up in case of a frost. Have planted out my main crop this week (Pink Fir Apple). I’ve thinned out my radishes and there are signs of my carrots starting to sp...

    Spring is here!

Radishes - Jolly and Carrots - Autumn King 2
What a beautiful day today. I managed to get out to mow the lawn for the first time this year and have also planted some Autumn King carrots and Jolly radishes. My Solent White garlic is doing really well so I’m hoping for a bumper crop this year after a couple of failures in previous yea...

    Main Crop potatoes chitting

    Veggies in Pots garden
I’ve got 10 Pink Fir Apple tubers (a new variety for me) chitting and should be ready to plant out some time in April. Last year I only planted earlies as it was my first year of growing my own veg but have decdied to add a main crop this year so that I’m self sufficient in potatoes ...

    Transplanted out already!

Tomatoes - Gardeners Delight Transplanted and Veggies in Pots garden
Can’t believe that it’s taken only just over a week for all my seedlings to come up so well that I’ve had to transplant them to bigger pots.

    Fence panels painted

    Veggies in Pots garden
Thought I’d take advantage of the mild weather and re-spray my fence panels so that they’re ready before I start getting out in the garden and planting veg in the spring. As you can see from the before and after photo, it was worth doing. Photo 1: Fence before painting Photo 2: Fen...

    Scotch Bonnet seeds

Chilli - Scotch Bonnet red Sprouting
Surprised to see a few chilli seeds sprouting already in the propagator as germination usually takes between 2 and 5 weeks and I only planted them out a week ago! This is a good sign as non of my chilli plants germinated last year for some reason.
