First Sow of the 2011: Sweet Pepper 'Quadrato D'Asti Rosso'

Sweet pepper 'Quadrato D'Asti Rosso' Sown and Fake Greenhouse (my basement) garden
Well, I am headed to Scotland tomorrow and wanted to get something started before I left. So, I got four peat pots (which I will never use again) from last year and put a seed in each. I am going to just set it and forget it and hopefully something beautiful will emerge. I am also using my rou...

Careful where you plant... a study in daylight vs shadow

This is one of my favorite photos of my 2010 garden. These three tomato plants were started at the same time (although not the same variety). They were planted on a west facing wall. As the sun transited the sky, the plant on the right got full sun from 12:00 to dark. The plant in the middle ...

Best of 2010: Chinese Five Color Hot Pepper

In 2010, I grew some really fun ornamental peppers. The Chinese Five Color hot pepper phases through 5 colors throughout the season. And they have pretty purple flowers. Their description from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds: I have a few seeds left if anyone has another ornamental pepper to swap.

    The Router Sprouter

Last year, I wanted to speed up the germination process, so I used the paper towel method. That is, the you moisten a paper towel, place a seed in the paper towel and put the seed/towel in a ziplock. Then you need to warm it slightly. The top of my refrigerator was cold. So, I searched the ho...
