I might just mulch and pull and Roundup weeds this year instead of vegetable gardening

Last year’s vegetable garden was sooooo much work and expense with so little good results that I may well just wood chip mulch my beds and pull and Roundup the weeds this year instead of vegetable gardening. Mulched flower beds to vegetable garden attempts, and back to mulched flower beds! ...

Hit my first significant non-supporter road block today

I noticed that my Iris out front are budding to bloom some time soon. Went in to my plantings to note that event. Realized that it would not let me use the A B C D etc. links to go right down to the page with the Iris. Scrolled down laboriously and found it. There I see no way to add a new observ...

My Supporter payment was a year ago on January 7. Now what?

My current plan is to let my supporter status expire and to see how I feel about my new abilities and lack thereof in Folia. When I joined Folia nearly a year ago, I very quickly became a supporter because of all my perceived advantages thereof. I had very high hopes in all aspects of my gardenin...

My shop lights are turned off

I turned off the shop lights and I need to carry the Tomato and Celery pots outdoors to RIP this winter. Besides the attacks of the WhiteFlys and the Spider Mites, I simply failed to systematically water these plants hiding behind the foam pieces I put up there to keep the light in. Should I atte...

    Homegrown vs purchased Brocolli?

    Broccoli, Calabrese
I tried several times to grow Broccoli this year. I finally got some to grow without the rabbits and/or the bugs eating all of it. It grew buds. But before it got anything near the size of what I’m used to buying at the grocery store, the buds opened into bright yellow flowers. So I guess n...

Looks like my indoor year-round gardening is nearing a close

I have 3 nice small ripe Tomatoes and several very tiny ones. Unfortunately, I failed to water the Tomatoes for several days several times, and they are quickly losing all their leaves. The Celery wilted badly too. Think I’ll just harvest what I can and toss the rest out. Then shut off the ...

Threw out the last indoor green bean plant and one more dead Tomato plant

The last indoor green bean plant had several beans on it. But nearly all the leaves fell off due to watering and Spider Mites. So I picked the beans and threw out that last plant. I also cut down and threw out another Tomato. It had gotten too dry and never perked up again. The two celery plants ...

Perhaps it's time for a totally new much smaller gardening direction for me in 2013?

This year I worked very hard in my gardens outside and inside and here on-line on Folia. I spent much time, mental energy, and much money and got some fresh air and some experience, a lot of frustration, but few vegetables other than hundreds of small Tomatoes. My indoor year-round veggie garden ...

    Fried Green Tomatoes!

Made some Fried Green Tomatoes today using egg and Jiffy mix corn meal muffin mix. Did 2 Tomatoes. Both were green outside. One was rather red inside, and it turned out mushy. The other was less ripe inside and it stayed more solid. Froze them to eat over some time. Would have made more after my ...

Picked what's likely my last outdoor Tomatoes this season

Yesterday I picked the larger ripe and green Tomatoes outside. There were several larger Tomatoes that were completely green. I’ve not gotten any ripe ones that big this fall. I’ve looked on-line for Fried Green Tomatoes recipes and hope to try that out soon!
