Hello! I am a 38 year-old artist and stay-at-home-Mom with a passion for “historical gardening” – that is, gardens either recreated directly from historical records, or created within the boundaries of our knowledge of gardening from the past.
My little veggie patch in the back yard is known as “Greenhill Farm,” and that’s where I’m trying to re-create a Tudor yeoman’s home vegetable and herb garden circa 1520, based on the example at Bayleaf, a recreated garden at the Weald and Downland Museum in England. This is a bit of a challenge since I live in Ottawa, Canada, where we have a much harsher climate and shorter growing season than southern England!
I also have an apple tree that I love and try and use for all possible purposes, and I like to grow dye-plants. My love of Dutch bulbs is expressed out front, well away from the pre-16th century stuff.
I live with 3 partners, 2 dogs, a cat, a teenager and a kindergartner, not neccessarily in that order.
