Lessons from others - to be continued
Do not put rock or other materials at the bottom of planters to improve drainage. This actually has the opposite effect and makes the soil hold too much moisture. You can put an upside down smaller pot into the planter to reduce the amount of soil needed to fill the pot. When planting new shrub...Cloudy 9°C / 48°F -

i started my fall garden today, august 21st. This is a lot later than I had intended. Fennel needs 80 days and my garden always seems to take longer than the maturity dates on most plants. Next year, I need to mark a calendar with fall start dates to make sure I don’t miss out.Storms 32°C / 90°F -

Probably squash vine borer. Stem was all mushy and fell apart. I’m nit sure why they did so bad this ye...Storms 32°C / 90°F -

tomato flowers are not fruiting. I read that you can shake the vines to get the “perfect flower” to self pollinate. I have a few tomatoes on all but one plant, but lots of shriveled up flowers. We had a few days of 90+degrees so it may have been too hot also. I’m going to tr...31°C / 87°F -

1 of my 3 zucchini has produced fruit and the other 3 are starting to flower. The flowers close up so fast, maybe because of the heat? I opened one flower up and a yellow jacket flew out. he must have got trapped when it closed ha! Still a lack of bees. I have only seen a few pollinating. Th...31°C / 87°F
