Terrariums redux
Overcast 30°C / 86°F
Tried again today with two more jars. I think I’m improving a little bit.
Used fittonias this time. I like one of the jars a lot. It’d be a gift to a good friend…

Terrariums 2 2
Overcast 28°C / 82°F
Created two terrariums today. I hope to give one to a good friend by 20 December 2009, or so.
I sure hope the plants don’t die on me in the meantime.

Back (of sorts).
2
I am back, of sorts. The late nights looking after my little girl (she’s now two months young!) are taking a toll on the family: bleary eyes, grumpy temperaments. ;) Alas, because I haven’t been looking after the garden that well, it’s looking shabby and unkempt. Good news thoug...Overcast 29°C / 84°F -

Heat germination of seeds - update 2
I think I cooked my seeds the first round. Heh. I capped the lid on totally, and after heating the seeds up, I find that the paper wrapping them was soaked through with water (presumably from the seeds). It’s been three days and the first batch hasn’t germinated. I’m treating th...Overcast 31°C / 88°F -

Heat germination of seeds 2 5 Edible Plants garden and Medicinal but inedible garden
Overcast 29°C / 84°F
I need to give Sandi credit for sharing her method with me. This is my first time testing out heat germination, and I offer a very simple pictorial guide to it.
Stuff you need:
1. Aromatherapy burner
2. Tealight candles
3. Small pieces of paper – to hold extremely fine seeds. If your seeds ...

Okra 'Clemson Spineless' and Atop the Air-Cons garden
Storms 30°C / 86°F
I’m quite impressed that the okra also survived the excessive epsom salting saga as well. Although a number of flowers that were developing have fallen off, but the 2 fruits that were developing have gotten bigger and appear ready to be eaten. Yay, shall cut them off and give them a littl...

Be strong
Tomato 'Broad Ripple Yellow Currant' and Atop the Air-Cons garden
Storms 30°C / 86°F
The only surviving tomato plant after my over epsom salting is this one, which was the biggest one in the first place. Guess it was just strong enough to survive the whole episode. It’s still flowering profusely, although no fruiting as yet. No direct sunlight at the moment anyway, altho...

Lettuce 'Mignonette' and Atop the Air-Cons garden
Overcast 31°C / 88°F
The lettuce is doing rather well. I was surprised as I thought the spinach would succeed and these would fail, but it worked out the opposite way. When I look at the lettuce, it reminds me of the Rapunzel story where the mum succumbs to tempting lettuce. Shall try to plant more of these. Prob...

Unhappy

These spinach plants are either unsuitable for this climate or I’m doing something wrong as they are not doing well. Think will rip them up soon and sow lettuce in their place.Overcast 31°C / 88°F -

What to do with soil?
12
Atop the Air-Cons garden
Oops, I added too much epsom salts to the soil and it appears all my plants are dying. It’s actually okay, since there is no sunlight entering my house at this time so it’s better to replant anyway. But I wonder whether I should reuse the soil since there is too much magnesium in it...Overcast 26°C / 79°F
